DG, ECN Advocates Clean Energy As A Driver Of Sustainable Development 

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, participated as a panelist at the Jigawa State Economic and Investment Summit, contributing to discussions on “Harnessing Alternative Energy Potential for Sustainable Development” and the critical role of clean energy in driving inclusive economic growth, enhancing energy security, and building climate resilience.

During the panel session, the Director-General highlighted the statutory mandate of the Energy Commission of Nigeria in promoting sustainable energy development and underscored Jigawa State’s abundant solar and biomass resources as strategic assets for expanding clean energy investment, improving energy access, and supporting sustainable economic development.

The summit brought together key national leaders and stakeholders, including the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON; the Governor of Jigawa State, H.E. Mallam Umar Namadi, FCA; the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad; Honourable Ministers; development partners; investors; and business leaders to explore practical pathways for accelerating Nigeria’s economic transformation.

The discussions reinforced the importance of strategic partnerships, targeted investments, and reliable, sustainable energy systems as essential pillars of national development. Dr. Abdullahi reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions, strengthening national energy security, and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a clean energy future.

The Director-General also commended the Jigawa State Government for convening the summit and for its forward-looking commitment to fostering investment, innovation, and sustainable development.
