Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has agreed to represent Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man who accused the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, of demanding N400 million as part of an alleged bribery deal, despite the Federal Government charging him with forgery and impersonation.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Adeyemi had alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded N400 million and an additional N200 million to facilitate his appointment as head of a government agency.
He also claimed the Chief of Staff sought 48 per cent of the agency’s proposed N27.4bn take-off grant and challenged the Presidency to constitute an independent panel to investigate the allegations, including a forensic examination of documents signed by Gbajabiamila since assuming office.
However, the Presidency on Wednesday dismissed the allegations and accused Adeyemi of operating a fictitious government agency with forged presidential documents.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Falana will lead Adeyemi’s legal defence when the case comes up before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Federal Government has filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi, accusing him of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and the use of forged presidential documents.
Two other suspects identified only as Femi and Anu were also listed as co-defendants in the charge but are said to be at large.
In the charge sheet, the prosecution alleged that Adeyemi conspired with the two suspects to forge official presidential documents, including an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by Gbajabiamila.
The government further accused the defendants of forging presidential letterheads, requests for office accommodation, staff account approvals and other official State House correspondences.
The prosecution also alleged that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council between 2024 and 2025, despite the government’s insistence that no such agency exists.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Presidency released details of what it described as an extensive investigation, maintaining that records from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that Adeyemi was never appointed by President Tinubu or any government authority.
According to the Presidency, Adeyemi allegedly forged official documents to present himself as the head of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
Police investigation reports also alleged that forged appointment letters, fake signatures, official seals and reference numbers were used to create the impression that Adeyemi headed a federal government agency.
Investigators said Adeyemi was arrested on October 27, 2025, at an office located within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja, where he allegedly operated as the council’s Director-General.
Searches conducted at the office and his residence in Suleja, Niger State, reportedly led to the recovery of several documents considered vital to the investigation.
The police further alleged that financial intelligence obtained from the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit showed that Adeyemi maintained 34 active bank accounts across different commercial banks and had also opened an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria in the name of the purported agency.
The investigation further revealed that three staff members posted from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to the office confirmed they never carried out any official duties throughout their posting.
The police concluded that evidence obtained during the investigation established a prima facie case of forgery and impersonation, paving the way for Adeyemi’s prosecution.
Neither Falana nor Gbajabiamila had publicly commented on the latest development as of the time of filing this report.
