The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government for its sustained investments in education, describing the recruitment of thousands of teachers and expansion of learning infrastructure as a major step towards strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, gave the commendation during the presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V Facilitators in Kano State.
The Minister charged the new teachers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, dedication and excellence, stressing that teachers remain the foundation of national development and the most important factor in building a globally competitive education system.
He urged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by nurturing learners with commitment and delivering quality classroom instruction, noting that the future of Nigeria depends largely on the quality of its teachers.
Dr. Alausa praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education through significant investments in teacher recruitment, school infrastructure and improved learning outcomes.
He noted that Kano’s decision to allocate 32 per cent of its budget to education demonstrates strong leadership and commitment to human capital development.
According to the Minister, the recruitment of nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators, bringing the total number employed by the administration to 16,000 within three years, ranks among the most significant education interventions by any state government in recent times.
He also commended the state’s broader development initiatives, including road reconstruction and solar streetlight projects across Kano metropolis, describing them as evidence of an administration committed to improving citizens’ welfare in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Earlier, the Minister inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven learning nationwide.
He described smart schools as essential to equipping learners with the digital skills required for the 21st century.
As part of his official engagements, Dr. Alausa also visited Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, aimed at expanding access to quality education for the girl-child.
In his remarks, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the presentation of appointment letters as another milestone in Kano’s education reform agenda, stating that the recruitment exercise reflects his administration’s determination to provide every classroom with qualified and competent teachers.
The Governor reaffirmed that education remains the cornerstone of his administration’s development strategy and appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education and development partners for their continued support to Kano State.
Dr. Alausa assured Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue collaborating with state governments and development partners to improve teacher quality, expand access to modern learning facilities and accelerate reforms that will deliver inclusive, equitable and globally competitive education across the country.
