Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday publicly declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
The governor also threw his weight behind the coalition’s preferred governorship candidate, Kingsley China, calling on his supporters to back all candidates presented by the political movement during the 2027 general elections.
Fubara announced his decision at the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and equipping of the Riven Medical Facility, a public-private partnership pharmaceutical manufacturing project in Rivers State.
He said the prolonged political crisis in the state had come to an end, stressing that the focus should now shift to peace, unity and development.
“I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our President, and he is the one we are supporting. The governorship candidate is the candidate I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support every candidate under the Rainbow Coalition,” the governor said.
Fubara dismissed suggestions that he should delay aligning with the coalition, insisting that he had already made up his mind.
“I am already in the family. I have returned to our family. Give your total support to the coalition. The time of war is over; it is now time for peace, and that peace will take us to another level,” he added.
The declaration marks another significant development in Rivers State’s political landscape following months of intense rivalry between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, before recent reconciliation moves.
The governor cautioned against actions capable of reigniting political tension, saying he would not associate himself with any agenda that could threaten the state’s stability.
“I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity in this state. We have done what we need to do, and now we are moving forward,” he said.
Speaking on the medical consumables factory project, Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring its successful completion, describing it as a strategic investment expected to accelerate industrialisation, create employment opportunities and position Rivers State as a manufacturing hub for medical consumables.
He disclosed that he approved government support for the project only after receiving assurances from investors and relevant officials on its viability and delivery timeline.
According to the governor, the first phase of the project is expected to be completed within three months.
Fubara said the facility would stimulate economic activities, attract local and foreign investment and encourage the establishment of ancillary industries around the factory.
He also assured investors of the state’s continued support and urged the host community to cooperate with the project promoters to guarantee its success.
The governor further disclosed that the Rivers State Government is currently involved in litigation with several companies over contractual disputes valued at more than ₦200 billion, noting that his administration was determined to avoid similar disputes that could discourage future investments.
He expressed optimism that the first phase of the pharmaceutical facility would be inaugurated within the next three months, describing the project as a major boost to the state’s industrial and healthcare sectors.
