“I Own Houses, Have A Canada Permit And A Family”- Portable Fires Back At Critics

Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has joined the ongoing conversation surrounding the trending “Olodo Uprising” debate, using his personal story to challenge critics who often question his intelligence.

Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the singer expressed frustration over being repeatedly labeled an “Olodo,” despite what he described as his numerous accomplishments at a relatively young age. Portable pointed to his achievements, including owning multiple properties, building a family, and securing a 10-year Canadian work permit, as evidence of his progress.

The father of seven also opened up about his educational background, revealing that financial difficulties prevented him from completing his studies. According to him, he was admitted to Kwara Polytechnic to study Business Administration but was unable to continue due to a lack of financial support.

Recalling his early struggles, Portable said he resorted to selling sachet water to survive after leaving school. He explained that while his father ensured that his siblings received formal education, many of them have yet to secure government employment.

The singer noted that although he is the only member of his family who did not graduate from higher education, he has become the family’s primary provider. He claimed that he now shoulders the responsibility of supporting and feeding many of his relatives.

Portable maintained that educational qualifications alone should not determine a person’s worth or intelligence. He argued that despite his success, growing influence, and opportunities abroad, some people continue to underestimate him because of his unconventional background.

His remarks have since sparked discussions online, with many social media users debating the relationship between formal education, street wisdom, and financial success.

“I no finish school; the time wey I dey go school, I sell pure water. I no see anybody to sponsor me. I will still finish school; I be be student of Kwara Poly. My papa send my brothers and sisters go school, na me be Olodo, but now, na me dey feed all of them”.
