Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has backed the advice given by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, encouraging citizens, especially women, to consider small-scale businesses as a means of earning a living.
The First Lady had faced backlash after advising unemployed women to explore local businesses such as akara selling, roasted corn vending and other small ventures. However, Anunobi defended the suggestion, arguing that many Nigerians often ignore available opportunities while waiting for bigger financial breakthroughs.
In a video shared on Instagram on Monday, July 6, the actress urged Nigerians who frequently seek financial assistance online to consider developing skills and starting businesses that can generate income.
Reacting to the common trend of people requesting “urgent ₦2k” on social media, Anunobi said individuals could improve their financial situations by taking advantage of simple business ideas that require minimal startup capital.
She mentioned ventures such as akara frying, roasted corn sales and kuli-kuli production as examples of businesses that can grow into profitable sources of income when approached with dedication and consistency.
“Every time you will be asking for urgent ₦2k, have you not heard you can start a small skill business like akara frying, corn roasting, kuli-kuli making,” she said.
According to the actress, financial success often begins with taking small steps rather than waiting for perfect opportunities to appear.
She explained that someone who starts a modest business today could eventually achieve significant financial success through hard work and persistence.
“Before you can say First Lady Akara sorry, Chairlady Alakara you would have become a millionaire,” she added.
Anunobi also referenced biblical teachings, stating that God blesses the efforts and labour of individuals who are willing to work.
Encouraging Nigerians not to delay taking action, she concluded: “If you snooze, you lose. If you lose, you will snooze. Just don’t snooze; start that business or else you will never become a billionaire.”
