“I’ll appoint AI as Finance Minister, Drone as Defense Minister if I become president” — Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has stirred reactions on social media after unveiling a technology-focused governance proposal for the 2027 presidential election.

In a post shared online, Sowore suggested that his administration would appoint Artificial Intelligence (AI) as Minister of Finance and a drone as Minister of Defence, arguing that technology could improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in government.

Sowore explains technology-driven governance vision

According to Sowore, Artificial Intelligence would remove human interference from the management of public finances.

Sowore2027 will appoint Artificial Intelligence as ‘Minister of Finance’ and a ‘Drone’ as Minister of Defence.

“The AI will eliminate human manipulation, waste, and corruption in public finance by making data-driven, transparent decisions.

“The Drone will redefine national security with modern surveillance, rapid response, precision, and accountability.

“The future of governance is technology, not patronage.”

The proposal quickly attracted widespread attention, with many Nigerians sharing mixed opinions about the practicality of the idea.

Nigerians react to Sowore’s proposal

Several social media users questioned the feasibility of appointing technology to key government positions, while others criticised the proposal as unrealistic.

Gospel wrote: “As a presidential candidate you need the day I stopped taking you serious is the day you appointed Doris ogala to go and be the governor of Abia state…”

Akande commented: “Apparently, being a politician in Nigeria means holding your phone and typing whatever it is you could put through… However, I have never seen state-of-the-art tech being forced to fit a campaign.”

Don also expressed doubt about Sowore’s presidential ambition, writing: “Mr. Sahara from my own observation you becoming Nigeria 001 is not possible for you bro. Why? Good question you have not helped any public offices like: Governor, duty Governor, senator, House of Rep, Minister, Ambassador and so on bro. Why not lobby to become minister first? Abi”.

Hisblemy wrote: “Very innovative style to loot🤣 when 500b goes missing they would simply come out and say it’s a system error🤡 even China with their advancement in AI hasn’t done this nonsense😆…….sug president is not ready to be Nigeria president….”

Kepha also criticised the proposal, saying: “Alawada. AI as Finance Minister? The same AI still coded by fallible humans with agendas, bias, glitches, and zero accountability.

“Next you want a drone as Defence Minister? Mere hardware, not strategy. Wars demand human judgment, ethics, and diplomacy, not just surveillance.

“Yes tech amplifies power but doesn’t erase patronage or corruption. Real governance needs wise people, not gadgets.

“No serious minded individual will take your aspiration serious with all these below-par tweets.”
