The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 general election, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, has ruled out any possibility of political reconciliation or future alignment with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and also questioned the source of his wealth.
She said this during a live appearance on the Yoruba radio programme: “Oju Abe,” on Splash FM 106.7, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Obasanjo also denied allegations that she received money or any financial inducement from Yayi, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 polls.
She said the breakdown in their political relationship was rooted in what she described as a lack of trust and integrity.
“I don’t trust Yayi again and I can’t interact with him again,” she said.
The former APC governorship aspirant also rejected claims that she demanded or accepted money from the representative of Ogun West Senatorial District.
She said: “I never asked for money from him.
“I had resigned from the race.”
Obasanjo explained that it was Yayi who requested a meeting after her decision to quit the APC, adding that she neither sought money nor gifts from him.
She said: “He called me that he wanted to see me.
“I didn’t ask him to bring money or gifts for me, but some of my associates did, because he said he wanted to see them also.”
Obasanjo maintained that the senator failed to earn her confidence.
She said: “He is someone that you cannot trust to keep your confidence.”
She further dismissed suggestions that she would seek financial assistance from him.
She said: “I am not the type of person to request money from someone like Yayi.”
According to her, offers of financial inducement only came after she dumped the APC for the PDP.
She said: “When I left his party and I said I was joining PDP, his team started calling me to offer me monetary gifts.”
Obasanjo insisted that her reputation could not be compromised, saying the senator’s recent conduct had left her deeply upset.
She said: “I am not a person of disrepute.
“His recent behaviour really aggravated me.”
Obasanjo’s comments come amid a sustained war of words between the two politicians over the APC’s internal consensus arrangement for the 2027 Ogun State governorship race.
Senator Yayi had alleged that Obasanjo left the APC for the PDP after he refused to refund her campaign expenses, claiming she demanded millions of naira and United States dollars following his emergence as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.
However, Obasanjo has consistently denied the allegation, describing it as blackmail intended to damage her reputation, while insisting that her decision to leave the APC was driven by a loss of trust and disagreements over how the party’s consensus process was handled.
She has since returned to the PDP, where she emerged as the party’s candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.
