The Supreme Court of Nigeria, on Friday ordered the permanent forfeiture of several high-value properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, handing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a major legal victory in its asset recovery efforts.
A unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel, led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, overturned a June 2025 Court of Appeal ruling that had nullified the forfeiture and ordered a retrial.
The apex court ruled that the appellate court erred in its decision, effectively bringing a definitive end to the legal challenge mounted by Emefiele against the Federal High Court’s order.
