Lagos State Prosecutes Over 100 People for Illegally Occupying of Road Medians, Environmental Violations

The Lagos State Government has revealed that more than 100 individuals have been prosecuted over the past year for illegally occupying road medians and breaching environmental sanitation laws across the state.

According to reports from government officials, the prosecutions form part of the state’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations, improve public safety, and restore order in public spaces.

Authorities explained that road medians are designed to enhance traffic management and protect road users, not to serve as locations for trading, hawking, shelter, or other unauthorized activities. The government noted that the continued occupation of these areas poses serious risks to pedestrians and motorists while contributing to traffic congestion and environmental degradation.

Officials stated that enforcement teams have intensified routine monitoring across major roads and highways, leading to the arrest and prosecution of offenders found violating existing environmental and public safety laws.

The Lagos State Government reiterated that environmental compliance remains a key priority of the current administration, emphasizing that enforcement actions are aimed at creating a cleaner, safer, and more organized city.

Residents were urged to comply with environmental regulations and avoid activities that obstruct public infrastructure or endanger lives. The government also encouraged members of the public to make use of designated trading locations and to support ongoing sanitation initiatives.

Authorities warned that enforcement operations will continue across the state and that anyone found occupying road medians or violating environmental laws will face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining environmental standards and ensuring that public spaces remain safe, accessible, and free from illegal activities.
