The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has restored normalcy after responding to a truck accident at Kara Bridge.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made this known in a statement that was issued to newsmen.
The Head of Public Affairs of LASEMA, Afolabi Olawale, made the statement available on Wednesday.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that the agency also responded to fire outbreak in Alakuko, with no fatalities recorded in either incident.
He said that the agency’s Tiger Squad was deployed to Kara Bridge around 3am after receiving a distress call about a truck accident.
He said that a 40-foot bucket trailer loaded with bags of flour overturned after crashing into the bridge’s side rail.
According to him, preliminary investigations show that overloading caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
He said that the driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that emergency responders immediately began transloading the flour into another trailer, while the overturned vehicle was recovered with the assistance of two private towing trucks engaged by the police.
He said that the damaged truck was moved to a lay-by, pending evacuation by a heavy-duty crane because of extensive damage to its wheels.
He said that the scene was later handed over to TRACE officials, while traffic was jointly managed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police to minimise congestion.
He listed the responding agencies to include LASEMA, LASTMA, Federal Road Safety Corps, TRACE, and Nigeria Police Force.
In another development, the Permanent Secretary said that the agency responded to a fire incident at 15, Olayemi Olaniran Street, AmJay Hotel, Alakuko in Alimosho.
He said that the fire affected the top flat of a storey building and was traced to an electrical surge from a prepaid meter.
According to him, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained and extinguished the fire before the arrival of the LASEMA Response Team.
He said that no casualty or injury was recorded during the incident.
Oke-Osanyintolu commended all responding agencies for their prompt intervention, saying that their professionalism prevented both incidents from escalating.
He urged haulage operators to comply with approved load limits and road safety regulations to reduce accidents.
He also advised residents to regularly inspect and maintain electrical installations, particularly prepaid meters, to prevent fire outbreaks caused by electrical faults.
He encouraged residents to promptly report emergencies through the Lagos State emergency toll-free numbers: 112 and 767.
The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while ensuring the free flow of traffic across the state.
