The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has claimed that he is more knowledgeable than most graduates despite not going to school.

He made the claim while reflecting on his rise from a bus conductor to one of Nigeria’s most influential transport union leaders, speaking during the 50th birthday celebration of Islamic singer, Hafsat Adegoke, in Lagos.

MC Oluomo said his practical experience had given him greater understanding than many graduates possess, pointing to the achievements of his children, who he said have become doctors, lawyers and engineers, as proof that his lack of formal schooling had not stopped him from prioritising education for his family.

He recalled that he had been earning and spending his own money since the age of 13, working as a conductor and using his earnings to watch films at Danjuma Cinema while also supporting his mother financially.

He said that trajectory shaped his journey into the NURTW, stressing that he did not enter the union without direction but learned the trade, mastered it, and rose to his current position through experience rather than formal education, insisting that the knowledge he holds surpasses that of many people with degrees.

He added that he had always maintained that he found glory in God despite being unschooled, noting proudly that his children are now a doctor, a lawyer and an engineer based in the United States, and prayed that they would be spared an untimely death.
