Mexico earthquake latest: Tsunami warning issued after 7.4 magnitude quake off Mexican coast

A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck has struck off the ⁠coast of Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas, triggering a ⁠tsunami ​warning.

The quake, ​which struck ⁠near the ‌Mexican city of Puerto Madero, was at a ‌shallow depth of ‌10 km, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. Witnesses said it shook buildings in neighbouring Guatemala.

Following ⁠the tremor, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat for the region.

The ⁠tremor was also ⁠felt in El Salvador, another Reuters ‌witness ​said.
