The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has given what appears a summary of his nine months stewardship, describing it as so far, so good.
Shaibu said this when he spoke with Media Executives in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, as the army celebrated 163 years.
The occasion, held alongside the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), afforded the service the opportunity to take a look at itself and chart the path forward.
When asked how he would assess the Nigerian Army’s performance so far under his leadership, Shaibu said: “The Nigerian Army has recorded significant progress in strengthening national security, largely due to the strategic direction and sustained support of the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“His leadership has provided the necessary political will, resources, and policy guidance required for operational success.
“Since I took over as the Chief of Army Staff, the Army has demonstrated renewed vigour, resilience, and clarity of purpose.
“Through a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic operations, we have neutralised high-value targets, dismantled criminal networks, and restored stability across several parts of the country.
“Importantly, these efforts have also created a more secure environment for socio-economic activities to thrive.”
