The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has distributed food and non-food relief materials to 2,038 victims of a recent windstorm in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Representing the NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, at the distribution exercise, the commission’s Yobe State Coordinator, Ali Abbas, said the intervention was aimed at supporting residents affected by the disaster.
“Today we have gathered to sympathise with you over the natural disaster that destroyed several houses in the last few weeks,” he said. “The Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, has directed that all the 2,038 beneficiaries be supported with food and non-food items.”
Abbas explained that the symbolic distribution would see 250 beneficiaries receive a bag of rice, a mosquito net, a blanket and children’s items.
He also urged residents to keep their surroundings clean, particularly by clearing drainage channels, to help prevent the recurring flooding experienced in the area.

Earlier, the Director of Rescue Operations at the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Jalo, commended the NEDC for its continued support and appealed for additional assistance.
Jalo noted that the commission has remained a key partner in providing relief to disaster victims across Yobe State.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Ibrahim Babagana, and the member representing Bade West in the Yobe State House of Assembly, Sanda Karabade, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for the intervention.
They urged beneficiaries not to sell the relief items, adding that measures had been put in place to monitor their use.
Before the distribution, the delegation paid a visit to the Emir of Bade, Abubakar Umar-Suleiman, to inform him about the exercise.
