Nigeria and Germany will hold high-level bilateral consultations on Wednesday as both countries seek to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, renewable energy, security and other strategic sectors.
The meeting will see Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, host her German counterpart, Johann David Wadephul, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit underscores the longstanding partnership between the two countries, built on shared democratic values, economic cooperation and a commitment to regional and global peace, security and sustainable development.
The consultations will provide an opportunity for both ministers to review the state of Nigeria-Germany relations and assess progress in implementing existing bilateral agreements.
Discussions are expected to focus on expanding trade and commercial partnerships, attracting more German investment into Nigeria’s priority sectors, enhancing cooperation in renewable energy and green industrialisation, promoting vocational education and skills development, and strengthening collaboration in science, technology and innovation.
“The visit reflects the enduring partnership between Nigeria and Germany, which spans several decades and is anchored on mutual respect, shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and a common commitment to promoting regional and global peace, security, stability and sustainable development,” the ministry said.
It noted that Germany remains one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic partners in Europe, with cooperation covering trade and investment, renewable energy, climate action, technical assistance, education, healthcare, migration, agriculture, digital innovation and security.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the partnership, the ministry said, “The Federal Government of Nigeria values its strategic partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany and remains committed to deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.”
It added that the government looks forward to “productive engagements that will further consolidate the existing friendship and open new avenues for collaboration in support of inclusive economic growth, regional stability and shared prosperity.”
The ministry expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen relations between both countries and reinforce their shared commitment to addressing global challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
