The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Federal Government of demonstrating a “troubling pattern of institutional failure” following the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP said the allegations and the Presidency’s response have raised serious questions about governance and the integrity of public institutions under the current administration.

The PDP said the government’s own explanation was as troubling as the allegations made against senior officials, noting that “this administration has demonstrated a troubling pattern of institutional failure”.
The PDP argued that if the Presidency’s side of the incident was accurate, it exposed serious institutional failure, saying it was alarming that an individual could allegedly secure office space, staff, budgetary allocations, CBN accounts and interact with government agencies without detection.
The opposition party maintained that if Adeyemi’s allegations against Gbajabiamila were eventually proven, it would amount to “yet another act of shameless corruption added to a long and growing queue of unchallenged corrupt officials in this administration”.
“Anyway this pendulum swings, the Nigerian people lose. Assuming that Nigerians were to accept the Presidency’s explanation at face value, the implications would be staggering. How could an impostor operate freely and undetected at the highest level of government?
“How was he allocated office space at the Federal Secretariat complex, provided with staff, given budgetary provisions, granted CBN accounts, and allowed to interface with top-tier institutions?” the party asked.
The PDP also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)- led Federal Government of pursuing a “covert internal review” instead of launching an independent investigation, suspending implicated officials and implementing reforms.
PFIPC Saga
The controversy centres on Adeniyi Adeyemi, who insists he was lawfully appointed Director-General of the PFIPC, despite the Presidency maintaining that the council is fictitious.
Adeyemi had alleged that the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, received ₦400 million through a proxy and later demanded an additional ₦200 million to facilitate his appointment.
He also questioned the Presidency’s denial of the council’s existence, arguing that the PFIPC was referenced in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
Adeyemi has called on President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent investigative panel, insisting he is prepared to defend his claims in court.
The Presidency, through the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, however, rejected the allegations.
It described Adeyemi as an impostor who allegedly forged appointment documents, impersonated a government official, fraudulently opened a Central Bank of Nigeria account and operated under a non-existent government agency.
According to the Presidency, police investigations led to an eight-count criminal charge against Adeyemi and two others, with the matter scheduled for hearing on July 27.
