The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, would win re-election in 2027, anchoring his forecast on the appointment of David Umahi as Minister of Works.
The senator, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, said Umahi’s appointment, the first since independence that an Ebonyi indigene and Igbo man has held.
The Senator spoke in Abuja yesterday at a grand endorsement rally organised by the Ebonyi community in the Federal Capital Territory
At the event, political leaders and stakeholders from Ebonyi State unanimously endorsed Tinubu, Nwifuru, the state’s three senators and all members of the House of Representatives for a second term ahead of the 2027 general election.
The political leaders declared that Ebonyi remained firmly behind the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what they described as the administration’s infrastructure achievements and increased federal presence in the South-east.
Moving the motion for the endorsement, Nwaebonyi, said the people of Ebonyi and the wider South-east had every justification to support the re-election of President Tinubu and other APC office holders.
“We are here to make a statement, and that statement is clear. Ebonyi is APC from top to bottom,” he declared.
Nwaebonyi said Umahi’s appointment had reshaped the political calculus for the South-East and strengthened the case for a bloc vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“We are determined to deliver a bloc vote for the APC. Since 1960, it is the first time an Igbo man and an Ebonyi indigene has been appointed Minister of Works,” he said.
The lawmaker pointed to the ongoing dualisation of the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt corridor as tangible evidence of the administration’s impact, noting that a journey that once took up to six hours was being transformed under the Tinubu-Umahi partnership.
