Siaya, county: A man identified as Joel from Uyoma has shown off his sprawling home that boasts a mabati house, huge compound and breathtaking landscaping that he got at a staggering amount of KSh 950,000.

Speaking to NaturaKtedy, the man said that he used to live in a simba within his father’s compound and decided to go and start his own compound.
Joel is the owner of a sprawling piece of land who look right from the long driveway with duranters adorning each side of the long driveway, and it is complemented by bougainvillaeas

“I will include hardscaping with cabros and pathways in future,” he said.
There are also shock trees that define the driveway, and others, like candle nut, are also on the way to the house. On one side of the driveway is a large compound where Joel is planning to build a large family home.
In a corner of the farm, there is a chicken shed where there are chickens, and he is planning to include rabbit vegetables.
“I built my first house and I am waiting to build my dream house; you should live accoridng to your means,”he said
What does Joel’s impeccable garden of Eden entail?
As one walks around the home, they are drawn to the Arabian grass that gives a lush look around the home, and there are also huge stones painted in white that are sourced from the local area.
” I love fruits, and I have more of them than other kinds of trees…when I’m seated, I need to be able to pluck a fruit and eat it. I have apples, guavasand apples,” he said.

Why does Joel’s home stand out?
Joel lives in a mabati house that he designed himself, and now and he explained that one of the most attractive features about it is the windows.
“Mabati houses are very hot, and one has to build a house with large windows for aeration,”he said.
The outside has a grey and white look, and the inside has a large living room with white and peach seats; he also proudly pointed out the entertainment centre that he designed himself.
The kitchen is open-plan, and the kitchen island is made using tiles where they usually serve food from easily.
Joel explained that the soil in Uyoma is black cotton soil and semi-permanent houses break down within years, which is why I used mabati.
“I built my house with heavy plates and had to bring a welder, and at that time I did not have electricity; I brought a generator to finish the job,” he said.

Joel also faced challenges along the way, and one of them was financial; the foundation was started and stayed for one year.
“It is made using 9 by 9 stones, and I filled it with murrum and then used the heavy gauge posts to hold the roof,” he said.
