Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has announced the release of his media aide, Zainab Sadiq, from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.
Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, disclosed the development in a post he issued on his verified X handle late on Friday.
He said Sadiq regained her freedom following sustained public pressure and advocacy by Nigerians at home and abroad.
According to him, her release was made possible through the intervention of citizens who demanded justice and spoke out against what he described as repression.
“Ms. Zainab Sadiq is finally free from the grip of repression!
“To everyone who raised their voice, made calls, demanded justice, and stood firmly against repression: THANK YOU!
“When people of conscience unite and stand against injustice, repression can be defeated. Welcome back, Zainab,” he wrote.
The DSS had earlier confirmed Sadiq’s detention after reports emerged that the journalist, who works with Sowore, was being held by the agency.
Neither the DSS nor Sowore disclosed the specific circumstances surrounding her arrest, and the security agency has yet to issue an official statement on the reasons for her release.
