Super Eagles striker Akor Adams agrees move to Serie A club

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has agreed to join Serie A newcomers Venezia from Spanish side Sevilla after giving the Italian club the green light to complete the transfer.

The agreement brings an end to weeks of negotiations, with Venezia and Sevilla now finalising the transfer details.

Venezia sporting director Filippo Antonelli recently travelled to Spain for face-to-face talks with Sevilla officials as discussions entered the final stage.

The deal is expected to guarantee Sevilla an initial €16 million, with add-ons capable of taking the total package to €23 million.

Sevilla are also set to make a significant profit from the transfer, having signed the 26-year-old from French club Montpellier for €5.5 million.

Adams had emerged as Venezia’s priority signing ahead of the new Serie A campaign after an impressive first full season in Spain.

The Super Eagles forward scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, finishing as Sevilla’s leading scorer in La Liga and helping the club preserve their top-flight status.

Venezia’s pursuit intensified after weeks of negotiations, with Antonelli travelling to Spain to meet Sevilla officials in a bid to complete the transfer.

The Italian club had earlier improved their offer as both sides worked to bridge the gap in valuation, while Adams also agreed personal terms on a contract running until June 2030.

Sevilla’s decision to reduce their asking price has been linked to the club’s need to strengthen its financial position and comply with La Liga’s financial regulations.

The transfer will become the most expensive signing in Venezia’s history, underlining the club’s ambition following promotion to Serie A.

The move has generated mixed reactions among Nigerian football supporters. While some view the switch from La Liga to a newly promoted Serie A side as a step backwards, others believe Adams will benefit from becoming Venezia’s marquee striker with the opportunity to play a leading role.

Adams began his European career in Norway with Sogndal before moving to Lillestrøm.

He later joined Montpellier, where his performances earned him a transfer to Sevilla before his impending switch to Italy.
