Timi Frank, a former deputy national publicity secretary for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized the federal government for claims related to the 2026 Appropriations Act.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Frank claimed that accusations of and dubious appropriations reaffirmed public worries about accountability, openness, and the administration’s use of public funds.
The former deputy spokesman for the APC criticized the National Assembly for falling short of expectations while blaming the current administration of allegedly neglecting to enforce accountability in public spending.
According to him, the recent revelations and controversy surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget have further reinforced the widespread perception that this administration represents one of the most troubling governments in Nigeria’s recent history.
He said allegations of inflated budgetary allocations, fictitious projects and questionable expenditures have once again raised serious concerns about transparency, accountability and the stewardship of public resources.
Frank, who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, alleged that the 10th National Assembly has abandoned its constitutional responsibility of providing effective oversight of the Executive.
He argued that rather than serving as an independent institution holding the Executive accountable, the National Assembly is widely viewed as having acted in a manner overly accommodating to the Executive.
Stressing that such perceptions weaken democratic institutions and undermine the principles underpinning constitutional governance.
He urged the international community to exercise caution in extending further loans, grants or development assistance to Nigeria, citing what he described as growing concerns about the management of public funds.
