A former presidential candidate and pioneer Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Shitu Mohammed Kabir, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, saying continuity in governance would enhance national stability, infrastructure development and security.

Kabir, a recipient of the national honours of Member of the Order of the Niger and Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, made the endorsement in a statement on Saturday.

He said re-electing Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election would provide the country with the stability required to consolidate ongoing reforms and accelerate development.

The former presidential candidate also urged the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to work with Tinubu in the interest of national progress, arguing that political rivalry should not stand in the way of nation-building.

According to him, politics should be driven by patriotism rather than prolonged political divisions.

He said, “Politics should be like football: competitors contest vigorously, but after the final whistle, they shake hands and work together for the good of the nation.”

Kabir expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure victory if he seeks re-election, maintaining that continuity of the current administration would strengthen governance and improve security and infrastructure across the country.

He stressed that leaders across party lines should prioritise Nigeria’s collective interest over partisan considerations, adding that collaboration among political actors remained essential for sustainable national development.

The endorsement comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with individuals and groups beginning to declare support for prospective candidates despite the election being more than a year away.
