Troops Arrest Senior Corrections Officer Over Alleged Arms Trafficking in Enugu

Troops of Operation UDO KA have arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Corrections over his alleged involvement in an arms trafficking syndicate during a follow-up operation in Enugu State.

Security sources disclosed that the suspect, identified as Ekweme Clement Onyebuchi, was apprehended at about 6:11 p.m. on Monday at Okpara Square, No. 11 Independence Layout, in Enugu North Local Government Area.

According to the sources, the operation was carried out by troops of the 82 Division Garrison in collaboration with personnel of the Division Provost Group as part of ongoing investigations into the arrest of suspected arms traffickers on June 30.

During the operation, troops recovered two United States-made pistols, two rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, and a vehicle believed to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was identified through intelligence gathered during earlier operations targeting an alleged syndicate involved in the illegal supply of arms and ammunition to suspected criminal elements.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in military custody, while investigations continue to identify other members of the network and establish the full scope of the alleged arms trafficking operation.

The arrest forms part of ongoing security efforts to dismantle illegal arms supply networks and curb the proliferation of illicit weapons across the South-East.
