Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered a command-wire improvised explosive device (IED) buried along a road in Kanguri village, Borno State, preventing what could have been another deadly terrorist attack.
The explosive device was discovered at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, by troops of the 149 Battalion while escorting a Mine Risk Group (MRG) team from Maiduguri on a mission to recover two trucks damaged in an earlier IED explosion allegedly planted by Boko Haram terrorists on July 4.
The command-wire IED was found concealed beneath a roadway in Kanguri village, located in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.
Following the discovery, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the 149 Battalion safely recovered the device without incident, averting a potential explosion.
No casualties were recorded, and no military equipment was damaged during the operation. The escort and recovery mission was still ongoing at the time of the report.
