Two persons have died in a road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere/J4 corridor of the Sagamu/Ore Expressway, Ogun State.
In a statement, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, says the crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m.
The Ogun State Sector Command Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, who issued the statement, said the accident involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
According to him, four adult male occupants were involved in the accident. Two people died in the crash, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.
“Preliminary findings by the FRSC suggest route violation and excessive speeding,” he said.
The FRSC said that the impact of the collision reportedly caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, leaving its front section completely burnt.
Odunsi explained that FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced traffic management operations.
“Officials diverted traffic to an alternative carriageway to minimise congestion while efforts were made to clear the wreckage from the road,” he said.
“Bodies of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary”, the FRSC said.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, has sympathised with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations strictly.
He warned drivers against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads, stressing that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes nationwide.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns, and prompt rescue operations.
