Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has confirmed the end of her marriage to her younger husband, Bobby Maris, following days of speculation on social media.
Rumours of a marital crisis gained momentum after the couple unfollowed each other online, with speculation intensifying further after Ogbodo and her younger sister shared cryptic posts on their Instagram Stories.
Breaking her silence on Tuesday, the actress confirmed the separation in a series of posts on her Instagram Story, questioning why ending a marriage should be considered wrong.
Expressing frustration over the marriage, Ogbodo said she was exhausted and described her husband as the “princess” in the relationship.
She questioned why it should be seen as taboo for a woman to grow tired of a marriage, asking why the expectation always seems to be that only the man gets to be worn out.
She said she was tired, tired of the “princess” she had married, and questioned what was wrong with feeling that way.
She added that being happy as a woman in marriage seems to depend on connections in the country, insisting that ending the marriage shouldn’t be treated as a sin, and warning that nobody should push her to the wall, describing herself as resilient.
She questioned whether eight years of her life wasn’t enough already, wondering if she would need to endure 20 years, or even until death, before her sacrifice would be deemed sufficient.
Neither Ogbodo nor Maris has disclosed the circumstances that led to the breakdown of the marriage, and Bobby Maris has yet to publicly respond to the actress’s comments.
