According to a news journalist, Baba Yusuf, a political strategist, claims that the US cannot continue to fight Nigeria’s security conflicts on its behalf.
Yusuf emphasized in a television interview on Wednesday that Nigeria must establish its sovereignty and take the required actions to combat terrorism and banditry while simultaneously seeking cooperation and strategic alliances with allies.
He claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s leadership in battling terrorism has been praised by US President Donald Trump, which is good publicity for the Nigerian leader.
He noted that a close look at the relationship between Trump and the US Congress reveals some synergy on the issue.
Adding that he welcomed Congress’s resolution touching on Nigeria’s insecurity even before Trump did, describing it as a positive development for the country.
He said what remains uncertain is whether Nigeria can sustain its fight against insecurity to achieve real impact, and whether it can successfully manage relations between Muslims and Christians going forward.
Yusuf acknowledged that the US has provided some equipment as part of its intervention and that some senior figures within terr0rist groups have been taken out, but stressed that sustainability remains the key concern.
He said what matters most to him as a Nigerian is what happens to Muslims, Christians and free thinkers in the country moving forward.
