In a statement posted on X, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Qatar and Pakistan, which are jointly mediating the negotiations, had concluded separate meetings with the US and Iranian delegations in the Qatari capital.
“The parties agreed to continue discussions over the coming period, with the next meeting to be scheduled at the earliest possible time following the funeral processions of the former Iranian Supreme Leader,” the spokesperson said.
The talks mainly focused on restoring maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and unfreezing Iran’s overseas funds, two key elements of the interim agreement reached last month, Reuters reported, citing sources.
The Doha meeting was reportedly technical in nature which meant the US and Iranian delegations did not meet directly. Qatari and Pakistani mediators held separate meetings with each side, shuttling messages between the delegations.
It did not cover Iran’s nuclear programme. Instead, negotiators worked on implementing issues that had already been agreed under the interim memorandum aimed at ending the war.
Qatar said the discussions made “positive progress” on issues related to the memorandum and were “building on the outcomes” of the earlier summit in Switzerland.
Neither Washington nor Tehran indicated whether any major differences had been resolved. The next round of talks is expected to take place after the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s former Supreme Leader.
