Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has rejected claims by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, that all five governors in the region have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Speaking during his monthly media chat, Otti said Uzodimma could only speak for himself and had no mandate to commit the entire South-East or its governors to any political endorsement.

Uzodimma had said the South-East governors had collectively reviewed their political options and resolved to back Tinubu for a second term. But the Abia state governor maintained that no individual has the authority to determine how the region will vote, stressing that the decision on who becomes president rests with Nigerians at the ballot box.

Otti also reaffirmed his loyalty to the opposition Labour Party, noting that the party would field its own presidential candidate, whom he intends to support.
He, however, clarified that his cordial relationship with President Tinubu and support for some Federal Government policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy, should not be interpreted as a political endorsement.
According to Otti, cooperating with the Federal Government is part of his responsibility as governor and is separate from partisan politics.
