Popular Nigerian content creator and comedian Maraji has sparked conversations online after encouraging Black women to embrace their natural hair and challenge societal beauty standards.
The entertainer shared her thoughts on the pressure many Black women face to alter their appearance, especially when it comes to hair. According to Maraji, it is concerning that many women feel the need to wear hair textures different from their own before they can feel attractive or confident.
Questioning the long-standing beauty expectations placed on Black women, she asked why natural hair is often viewed as less desirable compared to other hair textures.
“Why are we the only people who have to wear another texture of hair to feel beautiful?” Maraji said.
She urged women to appreciate and celebrate their natural hair, emphasizing that beauty should not be defined by the adoption of a different appearance.
