A non-governmental organisation, Ike-Elechi Ogba Foundation, Monday intensified efforts to revive Igbo culture and traditions with the convocation of a cultural carnival and art exhibition in Ebonyi state.
The event, held at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Hall of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, also featured the launch of a book titled Echoes of a Regal Throne.
Leader of the foundation and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Ike-Elechi Ogba, said the initiative was aimed at showcasing African and Nigerian heritage, with particular focus on Ebonyi culture.
He said the programme is designed to reconnect society with its roots and counter the gradual erosion of indigenous values.
The event attracted prominent stakeholders, including Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and former governor and Minister of Education, Sam Egwu, among others.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Grace Umezuruike, Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving Igbo language and culture.
He also expressed concern over attacks on traditional rulers, stressing the need to protect their lives and property.
