The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed a 17-match suspension to Kennedy Boboye, head coach of Bendel Insurance, for gross misconduct following last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Plateau United.
Boboye was also fined ₦2 million after the league ruled that he acted improperly towards a match official in a manner that violated principles of fair play and discipline.
The Benin-based club were separately punished for breaching league rules during the Matchday 32 fixture. Bendel Insurance received a ₦2 million fine for failing to provide adequate and effective security and another ₦1 million for unsporting behaviour considered capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
The NPFL also fined the club ₦2 million for detaining match officials for 40 minutes after the final whistle. Bendel Insurance will play their next three home games behind closed doors.
Elsewhere, Shooting Stars technical adviser Nurudeen Aweroro praised his players after a 3-1 win over Rangers in Ibadan.
Adams Mustapha, Desmond Ojietefian and Sodiq Ibrahim scored for Shooting Stars, while Chidebere Nwobodo grabbed a consolation goal for Rangers.
Aweroro admitted the clash against the eight-time champions was demanding.
“We played against a team that has not conceded in their recent games,” Aweroro said.
“The game was one of our best games because we played against a tough team, stayed very conscious in defense, and still managed to score three goals.”
“It shows the mentality and resilience of our players.
“We never gave up. They call us warriors, and the players understood the message before the game: to play like warrior; and they did just that.”
