Former Kano State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Gawuna, has resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

Gawuna announced his resignation in a letter dated March 27, stating that the decision takes immediate effect.

He explained that his action was in compliance with a directive issued by President Bola Tinubu requiring political appointees to step down in line with provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of upcoming political activities.

In the letter, Gawuna expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege that enabled him to contribute to the growth of the bank and Nigeria’s housing sector.

He also assured members of the board of a smooth transition process, stating that he would hand over all official responsibilities in accordance with established procedures.

Gawuna, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 Kano State governorship election, has not formally declared any intention to contest another elective office.

However, his resignation has sparked speculation that he may be preparing to participate in future elections.
