Caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the House of Representatives said it doubted the impartiality and neutrality of chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, to oversee the 2027 general elections in a free, fair and credible manner.
The caucus stated this at a media briefing Monday, saying this followed recent public statements and actions by the chairman, which it deemed to be compromising, partisan, and conflicting.”
It has also vowed to petition the National Judicial Council (NJC) over the actions of some judicial officers in alleged collusion with INEC to undermine the nation’s democratic system.
Citing Section 83 (5) of the Electoral Act 2026 which clearly prohibits any court of law in Nigeria from entertaining any case concerning party congresses, the caucus said, “Sadly, that’s what INEC is enabling by its actions and pronouncements concerning the internal affairs of the ADC.”
