A political group known as Kwara State All Progressive Congress Young Stakeholders (KSAPYS), has cautioned the leadership of the ruling party in the state against fielding its flag bearer for 2027 governorship elections outside Kwara north senatorial district.

The group said based on empirical evidences Kwara north remains the most dependable electoral strong hold capable of delivering the critical block votes required for the APC to triumph in the 2027 general elections in the state.

The group handed down the caution at a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, addressed by it spokesperson, Isa Kayode from Ubandawaki ward in Ilorin west local government area of the state.

Kayode’s submission were corroborated by two other speakers, Ajide Foluke from Kwara South and Muhammed Buhari from Kwara north.

Advancing reasons for the party to choose it candidate from Kwara North, the group’s spokesman said a careful analysis of presidential elections results in Kwara state across the 2015, 2019, and 2023 elections cycles revealed a consistent and undeniable pattern that must guide the party’s strategic decisions as it approach the 2027 general elections.

He further said, “In all three elections, Kwara North maintained a stable voting pattern favour of APC, contributing significantly to overall victory margins.

“Other zones, particularly Kwara Central and Kwara South, have exhibited fluctuating and less predictable voting behaviour.

“A deeper analysis suggest that a portion of votes in Kwara Central often reflected spill over influences rather than a cohesive, independent voting bloc”.

‘In the light of these realities, we state unequivocally: For APC to secure victory in the 2027 general elections in Kwara state, the party must strategically present a governorship candidate from Kwara North.”
