A public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has warned that Nigeria’s 2027 general elections could be uncertain and unpredictable if key challenges are not addressed.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Shehu pointed to several factors he believes may negatively affect the elections, including what he described as desperate opposition, greedy incumbents, and docile voters.
He also raised concerns about cash-and-carry local and foreign election monitors, as well as “professional ballot box snatchers” and professional election riggers.
He further warned that a compromised and polarised media could worsen the situation.
He added that these combined issues may make the 2027 elections uncertain, unsure, unpredictable, fluid and, if care is not taken, stalemated.
“Such that the 2027 elections will become uncertain, unsure, unpredictable, fluid and, if care is not taken, stalemated. I pray I am proved wrong,” he added.
