Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has postponed making a final decision on whether he will leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor announced that consultations with key political stakeholders will continue for an additional week.
The announcement came after a closed-door meeting at the Government House, where party leaders agreed on the need for more time to engage broadly with political actors ahead of the 2027 elections.
A committee led by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau has been tasked with reviewing options for possible political realignment.
Speaking on the development, the state PDP Chairman, Sama’ila Burga, said the extension is aimed at ensuring unity within the party while exploring viable political pathways.
The committee, which comprises lawmakers and local government chairmen, is expected to submit its recommendations at the end of the one-week consultation period.
The development signals ongoing political recalibrations within the PDP as key actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
