A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa state, Muhammad Bello-Yakub, Tuesday, urged the national leadership of the party to provide a level playing field to all aspirants in the 2027 general elections.

Bello-Yakubu, who is the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Keffi local hovernment area of Nasarawa state, made the call in a statement in Lafia, Nasarawa state capital.

He expressed concern over the current happenings in the state chapter and solicited the intervention of President Bola Tinubu to ensure inclusivity and promotion of internal democracy.

“I want to call on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the party affairs in the state to promote internal democracy,” he said.

Bello-Yakub expressed worry that the early choice of a single governorship aspirant may discourage participation and weaken party unity.

“If these issues are not urgently addressed, there is a strong likelihood that the party may experience a recurrence of the setbacks witnessed in the 2023 elections,” he stated.

Governor Abdullahi Sule recently endorsed Senator Ahmed Wadada as his preferred governorship aspirant for the 2027 elections which did not go down well with stakeholders in the state.

He explained how the party suffered significant setbacks in the 2023 general election by losing presidential votes, three Senate seats, two House of Representatives seats and many state House of Assembly seats to opposition.

“I respectfully want to bring to the attention of the President and the national leadership of the party to critical concerns regarding the recent political developments and internal dynamics of our great party in Nasarawa State.

“There appears to be limited inclusiveness in decision-making processes, with critical stakeholders and a significant number of traditional rulers, including prominent emirs, not adequately consulted or carried along,” he said.
