A senatorial aspirant for Oyo Central senatorial district, in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA) on Thursday declared that the zone was battling with underdevelopment.

Ali said this while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Oyo state Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Akeem Abas and his  executive members at the NUJ Millennium Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

He stressed that for the zone to witness the much needed development, he was the most qualified candidate to deliver the much-needed dividends of democracy to the people of the district.

Emphasising that Oyo Central senatorial district required purposeful leadership capable of addressing its developmental challenges, Alhaji Ali said his wealth of experience in grassroots representation and progressive politics uniquely positioned him to drive meaningful transformation across the district.

“Oyo Central senatorial district is battling with underdevelopment. I will bring the dividends of democracy to my constituency”, he said.

Ali added, “There are numerous federal welfare and intervention programmes our people are unaware of, and I will ensure they benefit from them”

The senatorial hopeful maintained that these experiences would significantly influence his approach to governance and ensure that communities under the senatorial district enjoyed improved living standards.

He added that his career exposed him to high-level financial management responsibilities, all of which he handled without blemish.

He disclosed that his aspiration was driven by a strong desire to bridge this gap and ensure equitable distribution of government resources, saying his AWA Foundation had been actively involved in delivering healthcare services and educational support to indigent members of the society.

While urging journalists in Oyo state to support his aspiration by projecting his vision and informing the public about his capabilities, he said the media stood as critical stakeholders in shaping public opinion and deepening democratic values.

Oyo state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas, assured that journalists in the state would continue to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.

He further said the era of using journalists as tools for blackmail and propaganda was over.
