Iheanyi Chinasa, who serves as the National Assembly Liaison Officer to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The move was made known in a statement released on Sunday by Levinus Nwabughiogu, media aide to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. According to the statement, Chinasa, widely known as Dogo, aligned with Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu during a gathering of APC stakeholders in Owerri, Imo State.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the meeting was called by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma and had several party leaders in attendance. It formed part of ongoing efforts by the APC to build stronger support across the South-East region.

Chinasa’s defection is drawing attention due to the role he held in Abia State, where he worked closely with the Labour Party-led government. In that position, he acted as a link between the state leadership and members of the National Assembly.

His decision also marks a change in his political path, as he had previously contested against Benjamin Kalu for the Bende Federal Constituency seat during the 2023 general elections. At the time, he was not aligned with Kalu and had been on the opposing side.

Following the development, Kalu welcomed him into the party and expressed belief that more notable figures may follow the same path in the coming months. He also encouraged party members and those seeking political positions to stay focused and continue their efforts as preparations for future elections continue.
