Actress Adesiyan Steps Down From Oyo Reps Bid

Funke Adesiyan

Nollywood actress and politician, Funke Adesiyan, has withdrawn her aspiration to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State.

Adesiyan announced her decision in a letter dated April 24, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the letter was made public via her Facebook page on Saturday.

In the letter, the actress-turned-politician said her withdrawal came after what she described as “certain reflections and high-level consultations,” noting that the decision was carefully considered.

“This decision is personal, deliberate, and guided by a clear assessment of the broader political landscape, as well as my commitment to long-term value, credibility and purposeful service,” she stated.

Adesiyan expressed appreciation to her supporters, party members, and stakeholders who had backed her ambition across the constituency and beyond.

“I remain fully appreciative of the confidence reposed in me across different levels and the encouragement received from supporters and stakeholders within and beyond our constituency,” she added.

Explaining her next steps, Adesiyan said stepping down from the race would enable her to refocus her efforts and continue contributing to societal development through alternative channels.

“At this time, I consider it more important to step back with clarity and focus, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our people through other strategic avenues,” she said.

Despite her withdrawal from the contest, the former aspirant reaffirmed her dedication to the growth and development of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
