A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Gafar Oyebade, has been hospitalised as a result of injuries he allegedly sustained after being assaulted by a member of the House of Representatives representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede.

Oyebade claimed that he was assaulted by Akinmoyede, who is also a chieftain of the party.

The victim said the incident occurred at the APC State Secretariat located in the Oke Ado area of Ibadan on Monday.

Oyebade made these declarations in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

In the statement, Oyebade claimed that he was invited by the APC State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina, in order to settle the crisis rocking the party over the conduct of the recently held local government congress in the local government area.

Oyebade, however, alleged that the lawmaker and his followers descended on him. He said he was brutally wounded, harassed, and beaten during the meeting.

He added that the matter has been reported at the Iyaganku State CID in Ibadan.

Oyebade said in the statement: “Save my soul. I was invited by the State Secretary of APC, Hon. Fatai Adeshina, this morning, 20th April, 2026, to the party secretariat.

“On getting there, I met the Hon representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, alongside Fatai Awoyoola and Wale Bello.

“The Secretary asked me to sit down, saying that the issue of the Lagelu local government congress list shall be settled once and for all. I told him I cannot sit in the middle of these people without my leaders’ presence. Then the state chairman summoned us into his office. The meeting became so heated up that he started to beat me in the presence of the state executives.

“All of them aided the scenario. He even threatened to kill me, saying that I am trying to hijack the party from him. The matter has been reported at the Iyaganku State CID. I am currently receiving medical attention.”

However, Akinmoyede, when contacted, said that although a meeting was held to address the problem in the local government area, there was nothing like an assault during the meeting.

Akinmoyede, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday through his Legislative Aide, Dr. Isiaq Akintunde, said that no physical altercation or assault took place during the meeting.

He said: “No such incident occurred during a meeting convened by the state chairman in his office.

“The gathering was intended to resolve a dispute regarding Mr. Gafar’s official role, as he claimed to be the party secretary despite records indicating he was the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Lagelu Local Government APC.”
