As the political permutation got heated up across the country, especially the powerful ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) almost has the majority of the electorate and stakeholders on her political table, and Bauchi state has been ruled for eight years by the opposition PDP since 2019, and now the APC seems to reclaim it back to her home with strong political players eyeing the guber position.
To begin with, the ongoing intra-party crisis is being engineered by the party political actors with regard to who the dice should be thrown at as the next flag bearer of the party for gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi State as every possible contestant tries to have the majority of the party stakeholders by his side for him to subtly cling to the party ticket in the upcoming guber consensus.
The deliberate orchestrating of a party crisis would make it difficult to even go to the poll for consensus or get it lost to the 2027 general election, similar to what happened in 2019 because whoever is not handpicked may likely be frustrated and even start engineering anti-party sentiment. But when the party stakeholders are fully intact, even the consensus would be smoother beyond feud expectations.
Lo and behold! Among the key players of the possible guber candidates of whom consensus would take place between, Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti stands to be a neutral player that it would favour without much ado. Why? He focuses on mobilising the masses towards the success of APC as an entity in forthcoming general elections across different levels.
His neutral stand distinguishes him from his counterparts because he’s a candidate that is fully supported by all without observing all sorts of religious biases. Bala Wunti is so sensitive in handling regional disparities that his impacts are physically evident. Bala Wunti is known for a rare attribute for discouraging religious discrimination, for his helping hands are extended to Muslim and Christian fellows alike. This single act has been the rationale behind winning the hearts of all and sundry in every nook and cranny of the state—BW becomes a household name.
Because someone like Bala Wunti, who spent more than 30 years in one of the strategic and complicated government institutions, serving and following through a series of ranks to where he has retired, is something to ponder. Mulling over his pedigree and the experiences he carries are what make him competent enough to fit the guber cap.
In a nutshell, if APC is to produce its gubernatorial candidate through consensus, Dr Bala Wunti should be the highest priority because of the cemented relationship he established among his co-contestants and the level of trust that the masses, public figures, and party stakeholders bestowed upon him.
