Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has commended security forces for their role in the rescue of abducted passengers along the Makurdi-Otukpo axis in Benue State, describing the operation as a testament to their professionalism and courage.

He noted that the swift intervention of the troops helped safeguard the lives and future of the young students involved in the incident.

Atiku said the operation once again demonstrated the military’s dedication to protecting citizens.

According to him, the rescue mission reflects the “unyielding commitment” of the armed forces to defending innocent Nigerians.

He added that the bravery and vigilance displayed by security personnel continue to inspire hope across the country.

The former Vice-President, however, acknowledged that the Makurdi-Otukpo road has in recent times been plagued by security challenges.

He noted that commuters along the route have frequently been targeted by criminal elements, heightening concerns among residents and travellers.

The successful rescue, he said, should be seen as a significant boost to ongoing efforts to restore safety in the area.

While praising the troops, Atiku stressed the need for sustained efforts to strengthen the nation’s security framework.

“Every Nigerian should be able to travel without fear,” he said.

He called for continued support for security agencies, including adequate funding and equipping of personnel to effectively tackle threats.

Atiku stressed that Nigeria’s progress depends on empowering those tasked with safeguarding lives and property.

He expressed optimism that with the right strategies and investments, the country can overcome its security challenges and ensure safety for all citizens.
