A prominent community leader in Malari village of Bama local government area of Borno state, Adamu Musa, weekend expressed serious concerns over the alarming trend of schoolgirl dropouts caused by harassment from local hoodlums.
He said many young girls are forced to walk long distances to attend school, making them vulnerable to various forms of harassment and intimidation.
During a recent community meeting, Musa highlighted the importance of education for girls and the negative impact that these hostile conditions have on their academic pursuits.
“Education is a right for every child, and no girl should have to suffer fear or harassment on her way to school,” he stated.
The famous village known for its commitment to education, has seen a significant decline in female enrollment over the past few years.
“Parents are increasingly reluctant to send their daughters to school due to safety concerns.
“Several parents have approached me, expressing their fears about sending their daughters to school when they face such dangers on their way there,” Musa added.
He called on the local authorities such as the LGC, LEA, SUBEB, BSTISB and BSSCB to take immediate action to ensure the safety of schoolgirls.
