A Magistrate Court in Warri, Delta State, has arraigned two men over alleged unlawful demand for development levy from a property developer.

This was disclosed in a statement shared on the official page of the Delta State Government.

According to the statement, the suspects identified as Irikefe Ajueyitsi and Abubakar Nasiru were charged with offences bordering on illegal demand and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

It was alleged that the defendants demanded payment from a developer, Pastor Fred Aghedo, during construction work at 3rd Marine Quarter Road in Warri.

The statement noted that both men pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared in court.

It was further noted that they were granted bail, while the case was adjourned to May 20 2026, for hearing.

The arraignment is coming amid renewed efforts by the state government to clamp down on illegal levies, particularly the collection of levies from property developers.

According to the government, individuals found engaging in such activities risk arrest and prosecution.
