Leadership disputes and factionalism rocking the Adamawa chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have worsened with an interim order by a high court of Justice in the State, halting planned congress of the party from being held pending determination of a suit before it .
The order was granted on April 10, 2026, by Justice Kyanson Samuel Lawanson, following a motion ex-parte filed by the applicant, Israel Ishaku, who approached the court seeking enforcement of his fundamental rights.
In his ruling, Justice Lawanson stated that after a careful review of the affidavit in support, exhibits presented, and the written address by counsel, the court found sufficient merit in the application to warrant the granting of interim relief.
The court consequently restrained the respondents, including Barrister Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin, the Africa Democratic Congress, and retired Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka, from conducting the Adamawa State Congress for the purpose of electing a state chairman, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive application.
Justice Lawanson emphasized that the order was necessary to maintain the status quo and prevent any action that could prejudice the outcome of the case, in line with provisions of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules.
The case has been adjourned to April 17, 2026, for hearing, as all parties are expected to appear before the court for further proceedings in the matter.
