The Ministry of Defence has assured the Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria (HRFN) of full support to promote horse racing and youth engagement across the country.

The HRFN delegation, led by its chairman, Tajudeen Dantata, was warmly received at the ministry, in what both parties described as a productive engagement.

Speaking during the visit Thursday, Dantata stated the historical and cultural significance of horses, describing them as central to human development over centuries in areas such as transportation, warfare and social cohesion.

He stated that the federation aims to revive horse culture in Nigeria through organised racing, with a focus on uniting people and providing employment opportunities for young Nigerians.

“Horse racing is not just a sport; it is a platform for job creation. From riders to grooms, a single horse can engage between 12 and 15 individuals,” he said.

The HRFN chairman also appealed to the Ministry of Defence for support, particularly in security coordination and inter-agency collaboration during events.

He said the choice of the ministry was strategic, given its mandate to promote peace and unity, as well as its role in youth engagement and national security.

Dantata added that the minister expressed personal familiarity with horses, noting their continued relevance within military traditions, including ceremonial parades and certain security operations.

“The feedback has been very positive. The minister understands the importance of horses and has graciously promised support for our activities, especially in ensuring security during events,” he said.
