Delta Court Affirms Idjerhe Monarch, Dismisses Removal Claims

The High Court sitting in Oghara, Delta State, has ruled in favour of His Majesty, King Obukohwo Monday Arthur Whiskey, Udurhie I, Ovie of the Great Idjerhe Kingdom, in an interlocutory injunction suit.

The suit was instituted by Angus Omasoro, M. Ibori Emajemite and others.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Crown Otota (Iyasere) of the Great Idjerhe Kingdom, Chief Uzzi Onosia James Obriki, who described the ruling as a triumph for justice.

According to him, the court’s decision affirms the monarch’s position as the recognised traditional ruler of Idjerhe Kingdom.

Obriki said the ruling has further strengthened confidence in the judicial process.

He stressed that the judgment reinforces the legitimacy of King Whiskey’s stool, adding that no individual can overturn what has been divinely ordained.

The palace maintained that the outcome of the case clearly validates the monarch’s authority over the kingdom.

Obriki further disclosed that the matter has been adjourned sine die, pending the determination of motions already filed at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

The palace also dismissed reports claiming that King Whiskey had been removed from the throne or forced into exile. It described such claims as false, misleading and lacking any legal basis.

According to the statement, the ruling of the Delta State High Court in Oghara, located in Ethiope West Local Government Area, is available for public scrutiny.

The Crown Otota urged indigenes of Idjerhe Kingdom and the general public to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

He advised residents to rely only on verified information regarding the ongoing kingship dispute, stressing the need to avoid misinformation that could trigger unrest.
